RA Training

For the past week I've been in RA training all week. It's been no fun at all, especially because I'm a returning RA and have already seen all of this. I mean, some of it's good, but for the most part it's really boring.

What I really enjoy is doodling during the long, overdone meetings. Sometimes I draw stick figures fighting. Other times I draw '70s style Private Investigators who are unable to solve crimes. No matter what I draw, it's always more interesting than what's really going on. Ok, so that's not true. One time I drew this blob looking thing that was pretty dull. But other than that my stuff is more interesting.

Behind Closed Doors was fun though. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's been described to me as the "hazing of RAs." I think this is funny because all I ever hear is how frat guys haze, and here I am hearing that RAs are hazing. The world's a funny place.

But they don't spank us with paddles or put us in barns with goats, they just throw us into unrealistic situations of what might happen when we're on duty. For instance, one of the skits I did was a roommate issue. Here's the scene:

The RA walks into the room to upset and angry roommates. They're not mad at each other, they're mad at their suitemate who's having unrealistically loud sex in the other room. So loud that in fact the girl from the room below is coming up with a paddle to beat someone up.

Now though this has never happened, it could happen. Actually, it happens a lot, just not to that extreme. And really it's quite funny to watch what they do. Generally guys try to control the situation by shouting over it and the girls try to deal with it one person at a time. In a situation like that though, it's better to just let the girl from the room below beat someone up.

So tomorrow we have sorority check-ins, and then more training for the rest of the week. Then real check-ins, and then school. So while I'm ready for people to move in, I'm also ready to catch a breather. Maybe I'll write some stories if anything funny happens tomorrow.

On a completely different note, I saw Funny People yesterday. I thought it was ok, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I think the casting was well done, and it probably reflected the actors who played it. Adam Sandler is getting old, and it seemed like he's passing the torch to Seth Rogen. I just hope Rogen doesn't start making more shitty movies like Sandler has been.

The thing that I really liked about the movie was the stand up. I would really love to see more stand-up from these guys. I would watch a movie about them doing stand up. Well, I would just watch it on TV, but still.

The problem I did have with the movie was that, to me, the trailers made it seem like it was going to be a funny movie, when really it was quite serious. It did have a lot of funny parts, but the trailers were deceptive.

So other than that not really much has been going on with me. I finally made an update on this thing. As school approaches I have a feeling there will be a lot more too.
