So it's Thursday and not Tuesday. The alliteration is still there! Anyway, I'm going to write about the "Bedroom Intruder" song. Have you heard it?
Now, you might be laughing your ass off and thanking me for showing you a hilarious video. You're welcome. Now after you send the link to your facebook profile listen up. There's important stuff going on in this video. That's right.
So at my school we have something called "Cat Crew" which is basically volunteers helping the incoming freshmen move into their buildings. The volunteers can be anyone who wants to help, including faculty. In my group, one of the professors I had over the summer was helping out along with some of my brothers.
As we were moving heavy furniture up the stairs, one of my brothers starts singing the Bedroom Intruder song. Laughing, I started singing along not knowing that my professor was right behind me. To my astonishment he laughed and said, "Yeah! I was talking to [another faculty member] and we discussed that when people get into a very emotional state they tend to revert back to their natural dialect."
Now, this might not seem interesting to you, but it caught me off guard. Firstly that my professors were current in viral videos, but also that they analyzed them like that. Looking at the video in that light, I can now see what they mean. Clearly rape is nothing to laugh about. I think the only reason we can laugh at this situation is because nothing happened because the brother stopped it. But how would you react if something like that happened and the media showed up right after? Then what would you do when that one interview started a internet frenzy making you a star over night?
It's interesting to think about how the things we take for granted have a major impact on others. Think about it, if you hadn't read this post and just watched the video what would be different? You would laugh and forward it to your friends with similar senses of humor. Then you'd move on and forget about it when the next viral video emerges. But how will this video affect Antoine Dodson?
I challenge you to take a look at the little, seemingly insignificant things tomorrow and think about an influence they might have on someone else, because things that are vital to you are insignificant to some people.
